Welcoming artists from Montreal, Toronto, and beyond to develop projects starting in Fall 2019.
D/deaf and hard-of-hearing artists of all stripes – writers, visual artists, theatre performers, lighting designers, dancers, stage directors, filmmakers, you name it! – are invited to submit their interest in developing performance projects that explore the relationship between ASL performance and classical music.
This project aims to increase and enhance the accessibility of classical performance for the D/deaf and hard-of-hearing community, while also expanding the expressive potential of established classical forms by blending them with therich tradition of ASL performance. D/deaf, hard-of-hearing and hearing artists across disciplines will work together to produce performance works and community outreach projects starting in Fall 2019.
D/deaf and hard-of-hearing creative leadership and perspective will remain a foundation of this project at all times, with all efforts being taken to ensure respect for the D/deaf cultural experience and to avoid appropriating ASL or D/deaf culture at large.
